We sit down at a 24-hour restaurant in West Hollywood called Kitchen 24 and Semisonic’s Closing Time starts to play.
It’s very smart and strategic of Starbucks to hide the short option from its menu to encourage everyone to order a larger size. All that @NTKF and I ever want is a flat white (in what is a normal Australian size) but we get puzzled looks from staff when requesting the short cup.
The American insistence on referring to them as ‘restrooms’ rather than ‘public toilets’ is hilarious to me; when their toilets end up flushing automatically by surprise when you’re still using them, that’s anything but a restful experience. 🙂
I just had a pancake stack for breakfast at a New York diner. I‘d say that a large stack in Australia would include three pancakes; this stack included five, not to mention the coffee whose smallest option was a jumbo mug. If I don’t survive, it has been great knowing all of you.
The US continues to surprise… we quickly ducked into a Burger King for the first time in years—since it was replaced by Hungry Jack’s in Australia—and the restaurant has table service and serves alcohol. Whaaa…?
I don’t really enjoy award shows but I watched some of the Golden Globes tonight purely for Ricky Gervais; he has always been a great antidote to the pretentiousness.
Happy New Year / Frohes Neues to everyone I’ve met here on Micro.blog! Thanks very much for making my online experience enjoyable again. The year 2019 was a great one and I have high hopes for 2020. 😁
It’s a few years old now but I finally sat down to watch Anomalisa. What a genuine, funny and heartwarming film—I loved it.
It’s not my favourite thing to do but we’re taking advantage of the Boxing Day sales for useful stuff before our trip to GLORIOUS NATION OF U, S AND A. @NTKF cleverly placated me with a double-shot flat white and apple and cinnamon burek before we started.
Our neighbours upstairs are very loud and seem to have very poor dexterity, as they drop things constantly. Finally, they’re doing something noisy that I can enjoy: watching The Matrix. It was so loud that I stood in our lounge room describing what was happening on their screen.
It starts to rain outside my office.
A colleague asks, ‘Is it raining?’.
Another colleague replies, ‘Wow’.

I was very fortunate to be visited at work by @NTKF today, who surprised me with the spontaneous delivery of a peppermint Magnum. She was in the area after finishing at work for the day and now I shall expect this all the time.
It has been a few days since I was on Micro.blog—too busy to think about it—which felt strange, now that it’s one of my favourite things to read each day. Every time that I’m here, I’m struck by how genuine people here are. Most other networks are noisy, artificial and boring.
I am impressed by For All Mankind and will be sticking with it.
In the last week, I have seen three different Tesla Model 3 vehicles in Wollongong and I am very jealous. They look so sleek and are really the perfect size. If only they were more affordable…
It didn’t take me long to think of something to say for mbnov today: in typical fashion, I forgot my car key this morning when leaving the house, so @NTKF had to call me. I can be the forgetful type when I start to daydream (or ruminate).
One of my younger cousins had his 16th birthday today. I’m not old by any means but whenever I see him and his two brothers now, I’m reminded that I’m not the age that I think/feel that I am.
@NTKF and I saw Ad Astra tonight and my goodness, it’s a fantastic film. It had better receive some decent attention at the next Oscars.
When I was still on my previous iPhone, I had a lot of difficulty deciding which of the models that I had over the years was the best: the 3G, 4, 5, 6 or 7 Plus. I can now say without a doubt after only three days with the 11 Pro that it is the best iPhone that I’ve ever owned.
A Melbourne moment… hearing someone yell on the street, ‘I’ll add you on LinkedIn!’.
I often find myself feeling a bit unsettled in moments where I’m doing nothing. It’s nice to do nothing but I then start to feel like I should be doing something. Does anyone else on Micro.blog have this same kind of restless Western brain?
I still enjoy Twitter to a degree, however I’ve found that Micro.blog is where I prefer to have conversations and post anything quick that isn’t for loungeruminator.net. With that in mind, I’ve started cross-posting from Micro.blog to Twitter. Let’s see how it goes.
We watched episode 11 (S3) of The Handmaid’s Tale on SBS On Demand last night. Wow… that was some excellent television (or content or streaming or whatever we’re supposed to call it these days). 📺
