@smokey I’ve always been more of a fan of Boxing Day than Christmas Day.
over here boxing day has barely begun :) i hope you had a great christmas!
@DiplomaticDiva For us, absolutely! It’s still a public holiday but without the madness of Christmas, unless you go to take advantage of sales and fight the crowds in the shops.
@smokey Haha the country should adopt it; it would be amusing for such a thing to happen that way around, since we tend to absorb many things from the US. You’ve also reminded me of a scene from 30 Rock in which they make a joke about Canadians and Boxing Day. I cracked up when I first saw it. It is reminiscent of how some Australians unfairly make fun of New Zealanders.
Understood! Boxing Day sales used to be a thing here in the UK, but in recent years, retailers have started reducing prices and offering discounts in the lead up to Christmas.
@DiplomaticDiva We live in a state of perpetual sales now, don’t we?!
YES! Retail is such a cut-throat industry. A lot of high streets are dying because of a combination of high rents, these discounts and on-line shopping.
@DiplomaticDiva You’re right; I worked in retail for a while and although I enjoyed speaking with customers, the focus on targets and numbers made it a tad exhausting.
I worked in retail for six weeks, when I was a student. It was over the Christmas period - and it scarred me FOR LIFE! No matter how stressed I am as a customer, I try very hard not to take my frustrations out on shop assistants, because their job is HARD!
@DiplomaticDiva Very good of you—anyone could be having a bad day or experiencing difficulties.
