The show that I easily miss watching the most would have to be Battlestar Galactica. It really has the best soundtrack of any TV show. I’ve been annoying Natasha about watching it with me for some time… we’ll see if she agrees soon. 🌟
I’ve noticed a number of American shows that poke fun at Canada—Australians do the same thing unfairly to New Zealanders—but can any Americans here tell me what the US finds amusing about Boxing Day?
Here’s my shortest film review ever: Toy Story 4 is brilliant.
I was asked by an old colleague to translate a medical report for her dad, who has pneumonia whilst travelling in Germany. As written in the document, the somewhat accusatory German description of his Exnikotinabusus (former nicotine abuse) rather than ’ex-smoker’ is priceless.
I’ve never had a nickname but today, after talking about typefaces at length, a colleague called me ‘Fontzy’. I can run with that.
Natasha brought some ruby chocolate home for me to try for the first time. That stuff is delicious; it’s almost like chocolate mixed with fruit, without being sickly.
Reports of iTunes’s potential shutdown or break-up into separate apps has finally hit the mainstream press and it’s hilarious to watch. I jumped in my car and heard Triple J radio reading emotional (and somewhat negative) user experiences of iTunes to slow piano music.
I’ve now been in my current job for a year. That’s hardly a huge milestone, however I’m grateful to have a job that’s closer to home. Not having to commute almost four hours in total each day has given me so much more time to enjoy with my family.
Today I saw a young kid out with family, riding a scooter and wearing a large crucifix. I accept that people raise kids with their own beliefs, however someone his age couldn’t possibly understand the weight of that symbol. Why decorate them with icons whose history they can’t yet comprehend? Kids are sponges and should be taught to question, not blindly accept.
I’ve concluded that certain people must think that I’m strange. Whenever I bring up topics like the importance of typefaces in messaging and design, I receive blank looks.
Slightly rainy Saturday mornings are the best mornings.
The same people in the office ask me frequently if I am experiencing computer and Internet issues at the same time as they are. My answer is always, ‘No, I’m using a Mac’.
It’s amusing to me when people at work say to me that twenty-somethings are entitled and way less knowledgeable than they think that they are. I don’t think these people realise that they’re sharing that view directly with a twenty-something.
Now that I’m back at my Mac, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 is a brilliant way to drown out the loud chatterboxes who have coffee together every day at exactly 3:00 pm near my desk.

Today was my first time ever riding a bicycle to work, since starting a new role back in my home city of Wollongong last year. It’s an unusual adjustment but I love the idea of depending less on a car and staying fit in the process.
Chinotto is one of my favourite beverages and whenever I have to explain to people what it is, they give me a very strange look.
It’s official: our budgies, Rogue and Rio, absolutely love Queen. So much chirping!
Last night, I had the enormous pleasure of watching Australian comedian Anh Do at the Sydney Opera House with my wife, Natasha. Anh’s show, The Happiest Refugee was hilarious and touching, as he told his life story and shared details of his family’s tumultuous boat journey from Vietnam to Australia.
I am in no way nationalistic or patriotic, however sitting in such a beautiful venue and listening to this accomplished individual, I felt grateful to be living in a country such as this.
I know that people tend to scoff whenever Apple tries to enforce desktop minimalism but I’m a big fan of the new desktop stacks feature. It’s really handy when exporting edited images for the Web. They just sit there neatly!
This Micro Monday, I encourage you to check out @numericcitizen, who has frequent thoughts on the state of tech.
The corporate tendency to send instructions (for any given work process) in the form of verbose PowerPoint slides will never cease to enrage me.
Being a marketing communications person in a human resources department is a very interesting experience. It’s like speaking two different languages; in fact, it’s like two different planets.
Is it just me or is ‘dumpster fire’ one of the most overused, melodramatic terms on American tech podcasts and videos? It’s uttered frequently about iTunes in particular, when most users couldn’t care less about issues in the blogosphere. Sure, it’s a heavy app but it’s not a ‘dumpster fire’.
It’s amazing how much more motivated I am at work when I pull out my own iPad Pro to perform certain writing and design tasks.
