A Melbourne moment… hearing someone yell on the street, ‘I’ll add you on LinkedIn!’.
I’m in Melbourne for work today and whenever I visit, I feel like it’s a bizarro version of Sydney where the streets make sense and the footpaths have space for more than two people at a time. It’s good fun to observe the hustle and bustle of the place.
I recently stumbled upon this great photo of the suburb where I grew up, which is called Figtree. It was named after the gigantic fig tree that once stood at one of its main junctions. In this photo from 1937, you can see it on the right-hand side of the frame.
Here it is up close! It’s a real shame that it isn’t around today, due to disease and damage.
In my work, I have the pleasure of using ad campaign managers for Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. They all have horrible user interfaces that are slow, ever-changing and incapable of showing any kind of helpful feedback about what is uploading, progressing or launching. Rubbish.
As Ace Ventura would say…
After much preparation and communicating with supervisors, I finally get to start my part-time PhD. It will take ages but I’m excited that it’s finally happening. See how I feel in a few years! 😜 📝
Budgie feast!
I love this sculpture at the University of Wollongong Library. Yay books! 📚
ABC RN recently shared a fantastic new episode of its podcast The Philosopher’s Zone, called ‘Why the Humanities?’. You should definitely listen to it; the three guest speakers do a great job of showing the value of the humanities in a world that is driven by measurability. 🎙️

I bumped into an old friend briefly in Sydney.

Photo challenge by @macgenie (day ten): this is how friends enjoy a pigloo together.
Check out this great piece of writing on writing by Dr. Kate Bowles on her site Music for Deckchairs. I’m sure that Microbloggers will find it relatable, as we’re all here because we enjoy writing and perhaps find that other online spaces and workplaces can restrict it. 📝
Clearly I talk about Apple, podcasts and Apple podcasts too much: Natasha came home with this for me, saying that she was keen to teach her students paper-weaving and decided to do her own Snell-inspired Six Colors design. It is now proudly displayed on the fridge.

Since interacting with people on Micro.blog, I feel like my view has broadened, as I’ve seen posts from genuine people who hold different views and interests. It’s about seeing the whole tree… Rumination 51: Fabricating/Inventing on Lounge Ruminator
Here’s my oldest friend, Evan, killing it on keyboard with local band The Tornadoes. You’ll notice that he’s the youngest by several decades. They’re lucky to have him. 🎵
Photo challenge by @macgenie (day four): family is without a doubt the most important thing in my life. Here’s one of my favourite photos of my Baba Penka and Dedo Petar from a few years ago, before he passed away. He would never say no to a classic box of Napolitanke wafers.
