It’s @NTKF’s birthday this week! To celebrate, she joined me on the Lounge Ruminator podcast for episode 19: Dis, Dat, All of the Above. It only seemed right to discuss her favourite topic: cake. 🎙🍰😍

The world has indeed gone a bit mad. Read more in Rumination 66: An Essential Roll on Lounge Ruminator.

This has been quite a productive and enjoyable weekend, with a healthy mix of uni work, completed tasks around the house, reading and and quality time with @NTKF. I am lucky to have her to remind me of what I’ve achieved, as I’m often too harsh on myself.

18. Home-office Soundscape on Lounge Ruminator: a brief and somewhat strange audio interlude to usher in a week of remote work. 🎙 (Beware of uncomfortable hand-washing sounds.)

I’m super-thrilled to see that the new TestFlight version of Gluon by @vincent includes categories for new posts. Excellent!

Just as I put up my post about the rainbow lorikeet and guinea pigs outside, my mum sent me this photo of herself feeding some king parrots on the balcony at home. It seems that our bird lives are in sync!

Mar 2020

I decided that it was time for a quick break from research to go feed the guinea pigs. At the same time, a rainbow lorikeet was enjoying the grevillea in our driveway. ‘Twas a feeding frenzy!

In 17. Non-essential Formula on Lounge Ruminator, a non-essential person considers what it means to be ‘essential’ then recommends the televisual triumph that is Kidding. 🎙

I love Apple TV but I also have some thoughts on usability: Critiquing the Apple TV User Experience on Lounge Ruminator.

Every night when we stick on the Apple TV, Rocky flies from her cage to join us. Generally, she’ll do two laps of the room then land on my head, at which point I put her on my leg. It’s hilarious and she clearly has FOMO—she needs to watch with us! Here’s last night’s result. 😂

Mar 2020

This is the time to really support local businesses. I didn’t need much convincing by @NTKF to order a jambalaya.

Mar 2020

I do enjoy sharing screens and seeing how others arrange things; here’s the current view of my devices. 😀

Mar 2020

Rocky really loves standing next to our kettle; it’s something about silver products and reflective surfaces, I think. She used to be obsessed with standing in front of an old toaster, looking at her reflection in the shiny finish.

Mar 2020

I may not have a home-office arrangement for work but at least I can set things up nicely and the way that I like it for uni stuff! I’m really looking forward to the full-on cursor support next week; the accessibility feature is good but it will be a nice software update.

In this week’s episode of Lounge Ruminator, 16. Silence and Sound, I discuss the effect of silence in film and comedy and the lasting effects of ‘iPod culture’ on how we listen. 🎙

This is either a massive bird or a tiny leg… it’s up to you! 🦵🏽🐦

In my latest episode of Lounge Ruminator, Remoteness and Openness, I discuss the value of remote work and flexibility, plus the enduring power of RSS as an open, approachable way of consuming news. 🎙

Rocky enjoys nothing more than hanging out on a comfy shoulder.

Algorithms surround us in tech that we use, systems in which we work and even in the way that we approach everyday tasks. In episode 14 of Lounge Ruminator, Are You an Automaton?, I ask: as we become more process-driven, are we losing something more human about ourselves? 🎙

Mar 2020

Startled by Rogue and Rio flapping suddenly around the house, Rocky took off in a panic and then needed somewhere quick to land. @NTKF snapped the chosen landing spot. 😂

Whether we like it or not, social media often seduce us into a world of illusion. Sometimes, however, we receive an amusing behind-the-scenes look. Read more in Rumination 65: Gyros Distortion Field on Lounge Ruminator.

I work with a funny IT guy who absolutely loathes Apple but he was generous enough to give me these stickers that he found in the office, which he had originally intended to throw out.
